- Internationalization of Tata Group Companies and EMNE Theory: Evidence from Tata Steel and Tata Motors(仮)
- 報告者
- 石上 悦朗(福岡大学名誉教授/神戸大学経済経営研究所)
- 概要
- This paper reexamines the internationalization of emerging market multinational enterprises (EMNEs) through the cases of Tata Steel and Tata Motors, including Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). Tata Steel's acquisition of Corus in 2007 and Tata Motors' acquisition of Jaguar Land Rover in 2008 have been widely recognized as landmark cases of large-scale cross-border acquisitions by emerging-market firms. This paper focuses on the post-acquisition restructuring of business operations, the allocation of managerial resources, and the processes of capability formation and recombination within the Tata Group. Rather than viewing internationalization simply as the acquisition of strategic assets, it suggests that the internationalization of EMNEs can also be understood as a dynamic process of capability deployment and capability recombination within a business group. By shifting attention from overseas acquisitions themselves to the post-acquisition evolution of organizational capabilities, this paper seeks to contribute to the ongoing discussion on the internationalization of EMNEs.

- Indian Business, Economic Development, and the Jobs Dilemma in the Twenty-first Century: A Book Talk
- 報告者
- Anthony P. D'COSTA (Honorary Professorial Fellow, School of Social and Political Sciences, University of Melbourne)
- 概要
- This presentation is based on my 2026 book Indian Business, Economic Development, and the Jobs Dilemma in the Twenty-first Century, https://tinyurl.com/Indian-Business-Jobs-Dilemma published by Oxford University Press. It covers the familiar ground of the Indian economy but approaches the issue of employment challenges by showing that formal businesses structurally are unable to make a dent in the surplus labor even as new business sectors contribute to growth. Low employment elasticity is not due to policies alone but results structurally from polarized labor markets, institutional dysfunctionality, the disadvantages of late industrialization, leapfrogging notwithstanding, and new geopolitical and economic realities.
