- 概要
- This study separates the effect of breaking into a large new export market from the effect of that market being rich, comparing Brazilian firms entering a high-income destination with firms making an equally new and equally major entry elsewhere. High-income entrants export and employ substantially more five years on, but grow through retention rather than hiring, and their workforces do not upgrade on any of three measures of skill. Pay for given worker quality rises instead, locating the wage gains this literature documents in rents rather than skill. Rich destinations pay a unit-value premium for the same good, but it is far too small to account for a revenue response that is almost entirely quantity.
