Abstract - 近年、企業への投資判断を行う際に利益率やキャッシュフローなどの財務情報に加え、Environmental(環境)、Social(社会)、Governance(企業統治)に対する取り組みを投資判断の基準とするESG投資が盛んとなっている。ESG投資は、2006 年 4 月に、国連が経済・社会・環境の持続可能性に対する危機意識の高まりを受けて、責任投資原則を提案した事を契機にしており、2022年9月の時点で責任投資原則に署名した機関は5000を超え、ESG投資残高は120兆ドルを超える水準になっている。ESG投資は明確な理念に基づいており、多くの賛同が得られているものの、ESG投資のパフォーマンスに関しては、定まった評価が得られていなのが現状である。また、より一般的に、高いESG評価を受けている企業が、市場で高い評価を受けているかに関しても、明確な結論が得られているわけではない。そのため、企業のESG評価と企業価値の関係やESG投資のパフォーマンスを明らかにすることが重要な研究課題となっている。そこで、本講演では、企業のESG評価と企業価値の関係やESG投資のパフォーマンスに関して、最近の研究結果を紹介し、インプリケーションを議論する。
In recent years, ESG investments, which use firms' effort on environmental, social, and governance issues in addition to financial information for investment decision, have been gaining popularity. Starting point for ESG investment was the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in 2006 and as of September 2022, more than 5,100 organizations have signed the PRI and ESG investments exceed $120 trillion. Along with the development of the ESG investments, analyzing the relationship between a company's ESG evaluation and its firm value has become an important issue in finance. Also, examing the performance of ESG investment is another critical issue related to the ESG investments. In this talk, I will introduce the results of the recent research on these issues and discuss possible implications.
