Abstract
Since the 1980s, wage inequality in major countries have become noticeable, and investigating the causes has become an important issue. While the discussion focuses on technological progress and globalization, it has also been pointed out that trade unions are having an impact on inequality. However, most research on unions and wage inequality is empirical, and the theoretical elucidation of the channels through which unions affect wages and income distribution is still insufficient. Therefore, this research presentation examines whether strengthening union bargaining power and changes in labor market-related systems will reduce the wage gap between high- and low-wage workers, and how the effects on both wages are linked. We will also theoretically consider the role played by changes in intra-industry resource allocation. Although this research will also conduct empirical verification after theoretical analysis, only the theoretical part will be presented this time.
