- Abstract
- This study analyses the impact of exposure to state-level inheritance rights reforms in India between 1976 and 1994 on wage earnings through unobservable improvements in educational quality and health status. Using the National Sample Surveys of India, namely 1983, 1987-88, 1993-94, 1999-2000, and 2004-05, we find that exposure to inheritance rights reform has positive effects on the children of those who were preschool including prenatal. Our results suggest that children who were given inheritance rights before parental choice regarding schooling receive a better allocation of resources within the household and consequently perform better in the labour market.
