Abstract
In this lecture, I will review the spreading of Covid-19 in Latin America, analyze its economic and social impact in those countries, and suggest economic and social disparities as the underlying factors behind the high mortality rate observed in major LAC major economies. Although the governments of the region have implemented a wide range of measures to prevent the spread of infection as well as economic-relief measures, they stop short of building a base for a sustainable economic and social system after the pandemic. Given this pandemic as an opportunity, we should begin seeking a development paradigm suitable for the post-corona period.
