The Research Institute for Economics and Business Administration of Kobe University (RIEB) originated from the Kobe Institute of Commerce founded in 1919. It was merged with the Institute for Management and Mechanization of Kobe University in 1949 to establish the RIEB.

Last academic year we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the establishment, and many commemorative conferences and lectures were held, including a commemorative ceremony. The centennial anniversary projects were supported by donations of alumni, student parents, corporations/organizations, community members participating in the events sponsored by RIEB, and former faculty members and active faculty and staff of Kobe University. By their contribution, we achieved 100% of the donation target, and the 100th anniversary events were more successful than expected.

From this academic year, we will begin to move toward a new 100 years. The RIEB has been working on cutting-edge fields such as interdisciplinary collaboration between social science and natural sciences, with both economics and business administration being the two main research fields. Recently, the Research Center for Computational Social Sciences was established on April 1, 2018, with the Institute as the main body, to form an international research base for computational social sciences. For the next 100 years, we will continue to pioneer cutting-edge academic fields while strengthening the digitization of primary materials, which we have been working on.

We look forward to your continued support and guidance to the RIEB.
