Topic How long do people keep reducing electricity consumption after public pressures?
Abstract After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, it is said that Japan reduces electricity consumptions. This is because the government insists that since all of nuclear power plants shut down, Japan has to save electricity. However, as time goes by, people may start consuming electricity at the original level. Therefore, we investigate whether Japanese electricity consumptions return to the original level after the Great East Japan Earthquake. We found that the commercial sector reduced the level of electricity consumptions after the earthquake, while the residential sector did not change the level of electricity consumptions after the earthquake. In additions, we found that the commercial sector's electricity consumption levels in 2013 were as low as those in 2011, which indicates that the commercial sector still try to save electricity.
