| Topic | General Overview of the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry |
| Abstract | Recently, the business environment for the Japanese pharmaceutical industry has turned unfavourable. The factors such as pricing pressure due to constriction of the national health budget, patent expires of major block buster drugs, increasing R&D spending year by year, decline in R&D productivity, weaker product pipeline, fewer approvals and launches, and competition with generic drugs due to the promotion of the use of generic drugs by the Japanese government have put pressure on the Japanese pharmaceutical companies' bottom lines. The Japanese pharmaceutical industry seeks new growth opportunities. In this context, the Indian pharmaceutical industry started gaining attention in Japan. We would like to consider the attractiveness of the Indian pharmaceutical industry as an emerging pharmaceutical market and business alliance partner, and the business risks in India. |
