Sensemaking Topology: Jointism in the Union-Management Training Group
概要:
(Abstract)
In this 17-month long ethnographic study, I examine the evolution of cognitive jointism in a newly-formed union-management training group. Cognitive jointism entails shared cognitions that produce action. I distinguished sensesharing as group-focused actions and sensegiving and sensemaking as external stakeholders focused actions. The ethnographer tied the evolution of jointism to issue sets that emerged, evolved, and were contested.  Which issues gained the group’s attention and how they were interpreted were instrumental to the group’s development and that patterns of group action modified and shaped the group’s development (Daft & Weick, 1984; Dutton & Duncan, 1987). Across project phases, activities clustered into two iterative action categories: sensemaking and sensegiving (Weick, Sutcliffe, & Ostfeld, 2005).  I also identified eight process and seven role determinants of jointism.
