Brief History

March 1902: Kobe Higher Commercial School established.
August 1914: Research Section established at Kobe Higher Commercial School.
October1919: Research Section replaced by the Commercial Research Institute.
April 1929: Kobe Higher Commercial School promoted to Kobe University of Commerce and the Commercial Research Institute made a branch of Kobe University of Commerce.
May 1941: Business Administration & Computation Research Section established at Kobe University of Commerce.
April 1944: The Commercial Research Institute; manager of Research Dept. promoted to Director of Research Institute.
August 1944: Business Administration & Computation Research Section officially reorganized as the Research Institute for Mechanization of Business Administration.
October 1944: Kobe University of Commerce renamed Kobe University of Economics.
October 1945: The Great Asia Research Institute of Kobe University of Economics renamed the Economics Research Institute of Kobe University of Economics.
April 1946: Institute for Mechanization of Business Administration, Kobe University of Commerce renamed the Institute for Mechanization of Business Administration, Kobe University of Economics.
May 1949: Kobe University opened following the promulgation of the Law for Establishing National Schools, and Kobe University of Economics integrated into Kobe University.
The Economics Research Institute and the Research Institute for Mechanization of Business Administration integrated into the Research Institute for Economics and Business Administration(RIEB).
August 1953: Maritime Economics Research Section added, making a total of 4 research sections.
April 1956: Central & South American Economics Research Section added, making a total of 5 research sections.
April 1963: International Business Administration Research Section added, making a total of 6 research sections.
April 1964: Documentation Center for Business Analysis added as an attached research facility.
June 1967: Business Administration Measurement Research Section added, making a total of 7 research sections.
April 1971: International Finance Research Section added, making a total of 8 research sections.
April 1974: International Labor Research Section added, making a total of 9 research sections.
April 1977: Oceania Economics Research Section added, making a total of 10 research sections.
April 1982: Existing 10 research sections reorganized into 5 research sections of International Economic Studies, International Environment Studies, Comparative Economic Studies, International Business, and Management Information Systems.
April 1988: International Cooperation Research Section (Visiting Professor post to last until March 31, 1988) added, making a total of 6 research sections.
March 1998: International Cooperation Research Section (Visiting Professor)was terminated.
April 1998: Economic and Business Cooperation Visiting Research Section (Visiting Professor post to last until March 31, 2008) added, making a total of 6 research sections.
April 2002: Existing 6 research sections reorganized into 2 sections: Information Economy Business and International Economy Business. By restructuring the Documentation Center for Business Analysis, the RIEB Liaison Center was established with two research sections, Corporate Network and Economic Policy Review. The International Cooperate Research Section was included in the RIEB Liaison Center.
April 2005: International Research support Center established.
April 2007: Global Economy and Policy Research Section added to the Liaison Center, making a total of 3 research sections.
April 2010: Existing 2 research sections reorganized into 4 units: Global Economy, Corporate Competitiveness, Corporate Information and Global Finance. RIEB Liaison Center reorganized as the Integrated Center for Corporate Archives.
