21st Century COE Program

 The faculty members of Graduate School of Economics and Research Institute for Economics and Business Administration in Kobe University studying the new Japanese Economic paradigm join this program, and study the sustainable economy under the globalization and decreasing population. We also contribute to the education for the students of various graduate courses and help them to become world•wide excellent researchers in the study field. The purpose of this program is to establish a world•wide and core international research and education center in Kobe University.

 The objective of this program is to establish an international research and education center in Kobe University by integrating faculty members from Graduate School of Economics, and Research Institute for Economics and Business Administration. We investigate a new Japanese Economic paradigm, and study the sustainable economy under the globalization and decreasing population in order to clarify the policy implication, and also make efforts to educate the graduate students and help them to become excellent researchers in the field. This program leads to a great advance in the research of studying a new Japanese Economic paradigm, and sustainable economy under the globalization and decreasing population and can give some advices for economic policy. It also contributes to the higher education of the young students, because Kobe University has very rich staffs and long traditions and history in this research filed. Therefore, the needs of this program are extremely high.

 Kobe University has a COE committee for our program, and the program members make several plans for the research center following to the advices and comments by the committee. In order to establish a world•wide and core international research and education center in Kobe University, we plan to divide the program members into 5 research groups (Population•Labor•Environment Analysis, International Economic Analysis, Firm•Household Analysis, Regional Integration Analysis, Econometric Analysis) according to the research subjects (see following figure), and each group invites famous foreign researchers and has international workshops.

By these processes, we plan to build an “International Research Consortium” in Kobe University, in which Kobe university has a hub station and there are many regional stations in abroad *. Simultaneously, we prepare for the international contacts to recruit and train young researchers from both abroad and Japan.

 As for the Education Implementation Plan, the program members prepare for the educational schedule to recruit students from abroad and Japan, and receive post•doctoral and graduate students in Kobe University as COE researcher and RA. We also prepare the “High-level Education for Post•doctoral Program” for these Graduate students in order to train them to become good researchers. We delegate young researchers such as graduate students to the international conference and congress in abroad in order to promote the exchange of research information as well as their communication abilities in English.
